Create a background filter

If you want to define which fields in a filter are visible to Viewers or reduce the amount of filtering they need to do, you can use a background filter.

Who can do this? Dashboard Designers.

Example use case

Let’s say you have a cascading filter, such as a dependent filter that looks like this: Role > Community Name > Challenge.

You could set a background filter on Role, so instead of showing all 4 roles, you can limit the filter to only specified roles. For example, Viewers will only see the filter as having the Full Contributor and Limited Contributor roles, but not Manager or Site Admin.

This is useful in cases where Viewers only require selected data, so they don’t have to search through a long list of fields, or for security purposes in cases where you do not want to expose all the data.

Note: You can set the background filter on any level of cascading filters, not only the first one.
