Edit an idea form

You can edit Idea submission forms after they have been created.

Edit an Idea form

  1. Go to your platform home page.
  2. Select Settings > Manage Forms .
  3. Under Manage Forms, find the form you wish to edit and select Edit. There is also an option to clone a form if you wish to clone and then edit an existing form.
  4. The form will open in edit mode. You can make reauired changes to your form such as:
    • Edit existing fields: Select the field you wish to edit and make required changes such as editing the field label, making fields required, changing character limits, editing help text, adding or editing values for fields with options
    • Add new fields: on the Add a Field tab, drag and drop the fields you want onto the form and edit the field settings accordingly.
    • Remove existing fields: If you do remove a field you will see a warning re potential data loss. If this form is used in any Challenge, you will lose any data previously collected on this field.
  5. Click Save when you are happy with your changes.

Tip: You can also create an Idea form on a community.

Warning: If you delete any fields in an active form, data from users who have already submitted Ideas to a Challenge will be lost.

Types of Fields

  • Standard Fields
    • Single Line Text: A single line of text that’s useful for a summary, one-word answers, and short phrases. You can set character limits for the field.
    • Rich Text Area: A rich text editor to format content with common formatting options, such as bold and italics. You can set character limits for the field.
    • Plain Text: A simple text box that’s best used for basic text that doesn’t need formatting. You can set character limits for the field.
    • Decimal: A single-line box that supports any number with decimals.
    • Dropdown: A list of predefined options where users can select only one answer.
    • Radio Buttons: A set of predefined options in a radio button-style layout where users can select only one answer.
    • Checkbox: A set of predefined options in a multiple-checkbox style layout where users can select multiple answers.
    • Date: Allows answers in date format
  • Special Fields
    • Categories: A list of predefined categories where users can select which category best fits their idea. The categories are defined when you create a challenge.
    • Keywords: A text input that lets users tag their idea with keywords.
    • Attachments: A type of field that lets users attach one or more files directly to an idea submission.
  • Form Layout Items
    • Section Header: A form section that other form fields can be placed inside to break large forms into structured sections.
    • Descriptive Text: A fixed text field that can contain a description, instruction, or other useful information.

Note: The max character count on text fields includes all spaces, symbols, punctuation, numbers, and letters. Anything that moves your cursor counts as a character.

Troubleshoot Idea Form issues

If you’re having trouble with idea forms, try troubleshooting some of the most common issues.

I can’t add or remove a form from a Challenge stage

You can’t add or remove a form from a Challenge stage if ideas have already been submitted to the Challenge, however, you can edit an existing form that’s on the Challenge.

My dropdown choice on a form has changed

If you edit the values for a dropdown field and ideas have already been submitted, then the original choices will be amended to reflect the new values.

Some users haven’t completed an updated form

If you add new fields to an active form and users have already submitted ideas, then you’ll need to inform the users to edit the idea and complete the new fields.
